Course Policies & Expectations
Enrollment at Homeschool History Outsourced is a commitment to a shared learning community. These policies ensure a stable, respectful, and high-quality environment for all students and host families.
Financial Commitment & Withdrawals
Because we limit class sizes and secure locations based on enrollment numbers, we share a mutual commitment with our families regarding the roster.
- June 1st Commitment Date: This is the final date for penalty-free withdrawals. Withdrawals before June 1st incur no further financial obligation beyond the non-refundable registration fee.
- Semester Commitment: We commit to our host families and Mr. Kevin’s schedule based on the roster as of June 1st. Therefore, withdrawals after June 1st are subject to a Withdrawal Fee equal to one full semester of tuition.
- Annual Scope: Enrollment is for the full duration of the course (Full Year or Semester). Payment plans are a convenience to spread the annual cost and do not constitute a month-to-month subscription.
- June 15th Decision Date: Final determination of in-person sections is made on June 15th based on enrollment minimums. If a section is canceled by the instructor on this date, your registration fee will be fully refunded.
- Late Fees: All payments are due on the 1st of the month. A $10.00 late fee is applied to any payment received after the 5th.
Academic Expectations & Daily Work
Our Socratic-style classes depend on every student arriving prepared to engage.
- Preparation: Students are expected to dedicate time each week to assigned readings and prep work (multiple-choice questions, chronological exercises, and Socratic research).
- Writing Component: To develop critical thinking and communication skills, students will research and write two to three formal papers per academic year. These are broken down into manageable stages throughout the terms.
- Socratic Participation: Participation in class discussions is mandatory. Students must bring their books, note-taking paper, and a writing utensil to every session.
- Online Participation Requirements: For students enrolled in online sections, or in-person students joining remotely due to illness or weather, a working camera and microphone are required. Socratic discussion requires visual and auditory engagement; therefore, cameras must remain on during class.
- Academic Honesty: We prohibit all forms of plagiarism and academic dishonesty. All work must be the result of the student’s own thoughts and research. A first offense results in a zero for the assignment; a second offense results in a failing grade for the course.
Attendance & Communication
- Attendance: Attendance is mandatory for face-to-face classes. If a student is unable to attend, they must notify the teacher in advance.
- Communication Channels: Students and parents should check Discord, Email, and Text regularly. Discord is the preferred medium for quick, day-to-day communication.
- Weather & Illness “Pivot” Days: From time to time, when weather or illness strikes, we may move in-person classes to an online format. All students should have access to a device with a camera and mic to ensure they can participate if a class moves online.
- Sick Policy: Please stay home until you have been symptom-free for at least 24 hours without medication. Students well enough to participate should notify the teacher and join via Discord.
- Parent Involvement: Parents are encouraged to share student account IDs and check progress in Canvas weekly. Final grade reports are issued at the end of the school year.
Host Family & Campus Etiquette
We are guests in the homes of our host families. To maintain these vital relationships, we ask for the following:
- Punctuality: Please arrive no earlier than 5 minutes before class and ensure students are picked up promptly at the conclusion of the session.
- Conduct: Students must conduct themselves in a manner that contributes positively to the learning community. Respect for the host’s property, yard, and belongings is required at all times.
- Allergies: Please notify the instructor via email before the first day of class regarding any airborne or contact allergies (latex, nuts, dairy, etc.) we need to be aware of.
Disclaimer Statement
Changes to the course calendar or assignments may be made at the instructor’s discretion. Students will be notified of any changes during class or via Discord, Email, or Text.
